Overall, this puzzle is around medium difficulty, as we found that not many of the words reduce to common constructions; that is, once you figure out a few of the letters, you should be able to decipher the full word with a bit of brainpower. “SHUSH” might give you the most trouble, though the single “U” vowel might be the clue you need to figure out the positions of the “S” and “H” consonants. Getting the “H” in the second position from “CHIEF” will help here (and vice versa). We tend to include the “C” and “D” when it comes to trying words at the beginning of the puzzle, but if you don’t, you might need to take a few extra guesses to work out “CHIEF” and “OUTDO.”
The double “O” vowel can make “OUTDO” a bit challenging, since they’re in the rather strange first and fifth positions, though there aren’t many five-letter words that begin and end with an “O.” As for “SWIRL,” that shouldn’t cause too much work as four of the letters are fairly common. In fact, it may just be the first word you solve, in which case the “S” here will aid you in figuring out “SHUSH.”
