Starting the Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak DLC isn’t as easy as selecting an option on the main menu. To begin playing the new expansion, you’ll need to reach a certain point in the main game. Fortunately, Capcom has outlined the process of what you need to do to start the Sunbreak DLC, and you can see it below.
How do you start the Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak expansion?
To start the Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak DLC, you need to play through the base game until you complete the HR7 Hub Quest “Serpent Goddess of Thunder.” In this quest, you take on Thunder Serpent Narwa, who serves as the story’s final boss. Unfortunately for those new to the game, getting to that point can take a while.
You’ll need to play around 20-25 hours on average to get to the point where you can start Sunbreak. Unfortunately, there’s no way to get to that point with a booster instantly. However, the free Black Belt armor and Degender weapon DLC will give you a bit of a leg up in the first half of the game. They’re not OP, but they will help you get to the High-Rank hunts quicker.
Fortunately, Monster Hunter Rise doesn’t start getting too hard until you hit the HR7 hunts. Even then, the difficulty doesn’t spike too much. So, even if you have to start at the very beginning, you likely won’t get stuck at any point. The hardest one you’ll face before hitting the end game is the HR6 Urgent Hub Quest, “A Bewitching Dance,” which has you facing a Mizutsune. However, equipping armor and decorations that mitigate water damage can help make it a lot easier.
Luckily, all that hard work will prepare you for Sunbreak, which looks like it’ll add some incredibly tough monsters.
