One of the new mechanics revealed for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is Terastallizing. The Terastal mechanic is a big game changer and will make certain encounters much more unpredictable than in previous games. But, what is it? We’ll take a look at Terastallizing in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
What is the Terastal mechanic in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?
Basically, the Terastal mechanic in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is a way to power up your Pokemon. Every Pokemon in the Paldea region will have a Tera Type, which they’ll change to when they Terastallize.
All 18 Types can appear as a Tera Type, which means you can get some very unusual results with the right Pokemon. For example, you might get a Fire-type Squirtle or a Water-type Charmeleon.
Not only does a Terastallized Pokemon’s Type weakness change, but it also can gain a boost to its attacks. If a Terastallized Pokemon uses a move that matches its Tera Type and one of its original Types, it will increase the damage dealt. Given the usefulness of the mechanic, it’s easy to see how it’ll affect your team’s makeup and how you’ll raise your Pokemon.
Of course, there are some catches to the Terastal mechanic in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. First, to use it, you’ll need a Tera Orb, and the orb has to be charged with Terastal energy. Once it’s used, you can’t Terastallize a Pokemon again until you recharge it. Fortunately, this is easy as you can recharge the orb at crystals found throughout Paldea.
You can use the ability at any time, and it’ll last the entire battle. However, you can also only Terastallize a Pokemon once per fight. So, triggering it at the right time is essential to using it effectively.
We’ll get to hear more about the new mechanics as we close in on its release date on November 18, 2022.
