The Star Wars: Rogue Squadron movie has been delayed. It was initially set for a December 22, 2023 release but was recently bumped from Disney’s release schedule. No official comment has been made yet, so it’s too early to tell if Rogue Squadron has been canceled or not.
Did Disney cancel Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, or is it just delayed?
Disney hasn’t announced that Star Wars: Rogue Squadron is canceled. However, it’s almost certainly been delayed to 2024 or beyond.
Little has been revealed about the film so far besides the fact that it’ll focus on the titular Rogue Squadron and be a completely original story. It had already been taken off the production schedule due to director Patty Jenkins’ busy schedule. The cause of the delay could be as simple as Disney thinking there wasn’t enough time to get the movie filmed and ready by December 2023.
However, it’s hard not to speculate with a franchise as volatile as Star Wars. We got a film a year between 2015-2019, but since Solo and The Rise of Skywalker underperformed, Disney has been apprehensive about releasing more.
Rogue Squadron was to be the first movie in the franchise in five years. However, that honor will now likely go to Taika Waititi’s film, which is still being considered for a late 2023 release.
