The Resident Evil 4 Remake Chainsaw demo is giving some players trouble with frame rate drops and stuttering. This occurs mainly on the PC and PS5 versions of the demo, but this still applies for the PS4 and Xbox versions as well. Fortunately, there are a few ways to ensure a smoother experience at a more consistent 60 FPS by fiddling with the graphics settings of the Chainsaw demo.
How to fix Resident Evil 4 Remake Chainsaw demo stuttering and FPS drops
Here’s a quick list of fixes that you can try to get rid of stuttering and frame rate drops in the RE4 Remake Chainsaw demo:
- Turn off Hair Strands – Leon’s luscious hair is actually the source of multiple reported FPS drops for the demo. According to one user on Reddit who has a RTX 4090, turning on Hair Strands dropped the game’s FPS from 200-240 to 120-140. So we recommend turning off the Hair Strands settings in the graphics menu.
- Turn off Ray Tracing – This is a tough sacrifice since the lighting and reflections in the demo are impressive, but ray tracing is another culprit for stuttering.
Some users report that the demo’s performance may be random. Some runs of the demo had a lot of stuttering while others were smooth, so it seems like the frame rate is inconsistent.
Hopefully, the finished build of the game when it releases on March 24, 2023 will be better optimized and not have as many issues with performance. It does look, though, that Leon’s hair will slow the game down regardless.
