Many Honkai: Star Rail fans want to know if they should pull for Jing Yuan. Some are already saving up Star Rail Special Passes and ascension materials for him in the upcoming Jing Yuan banner that releases on May 17, while others are not as impressed with his skills and abilities. So, here are some pros and cons to help you decide whether you should pull for Jing Yuan or continue saving for someone else.
Should you pull on the Jing Yuan banner in Honkai: Star Rail?
Yes, we recommend that you pull for Jing Yuan in his upcoming banner, and not just for him, but for the other featured 4-star characters.
First off, you should pull for Jing Yuan if you like his design. I mean, he’s got a white lion, so it’s hard to pass on that. But beyond that, he’s a solid Lightning DPS user that will in fact be one of the highest DPS characters for quite a while. The Lightning Lord he summons on the battlefield deals a very high amount of lightning damage every turn, and he’s different enough from the 5-star Seele in the current banner that both are viable.
As a bonus, the Jing Yuan banner will feature Sushang, Tingyun, and March 7th for higher drop rates (that is, if his banner from the beta remains the same). Sushang is one of the best damage dealers, Tingyun is a great offensive support with Asta, and March 7th is one of the best defensive supports. So if you want to unlock their Eidolons faster with extra copies of their characters, this would be the time to do it.
That said, it’s understandable if you want to pass on Jing Yuan. Serval is a good enough Lightning DPS character (who is also on the Erudition path) that Jing Yuan isn’t completely necessary, and it’s very possible that he will be outmatched in DPS eventually. Anyone playing Honkai: Star Rail in the long run will eventually max out all the Eidolons for 4-star characters too. There’s also Luocha, Silver Wolf, and Kafka to consider for future banners.
Still, we think that it’s early enough in Honkai: Star Rail that having more characters and stronger 4-star characters in general is worth pulling on the Jing Yuan banner when it drops.
