With any new port of a multiplatform game, it’s easy to ask how it will interact with versions on other consoles. Tower of Fantasy is one such game, as it has recently come to PS4 and PS5 after releasing on PC and mobile. So is there Tower of Fantasy cross-play or cross-progression?
Does Tower of Fantasy have cross-play?
Tower of Fantasy does not have total and seamless cross-play for every system. PlayStation owners will be on their own “independent journey” according to the game’s Twitter account. It’s a little unclear if PS4 and PS5 players can play with each other or use the same save (the PS4 version isn’t on the PlayStation Store on PS5), but they cannot play with people on the PC and mobile versions.
“While we wish that the PlayStation version was not an independent journey for Tower of Fantasy players, we will do our best to continue to optimize our PC and mobile gaming experience and deliver new and engaging content for you to enjoy,” said the team on the official website.
The studio put out another statement and noted that it was trying to “identify and implement cross-platform solutions” for the PlayStation ports, but was unable to because of “cross-platform storage server deployment.”
PC and mobile players can, however, play with each other. And while those versions talk to each other and can share save files and progression (for the most part), PlayStation users are, once again, locked into their own system. Those on PlayStation can’t transfer their progress or purchases to those platforms. They are about as locked away as they can be and are essentially two separate versions of the same game. It’s unclear if this will change in the future since Perfect World Games didn’t make a definitive statement about it either way in the aforementioned post.
