The Baldur’s Gate 3 Lava Elemental is a very tough enemy due to its passive healing regeneration. These magma elementals can usually be found around the Grymforge in the Underdark and are tough obstacles in your journey toward the Adamantine Forge. Not only do they have a lot of HP, but at the start of every turn they stand in lava (which is almost everywhere), they are naturally healed by the environment for a lot of hit points. Here are some techniques you can use to fight the Lava Elemental boss and turn off its healing effect in BG3.
How to fight Baldur’s Gate 3 Lava Elemental
To fight the Lava Elemental successfully, you need to lure the enemy onto solid ground and take advantage of its weakness to cold damage.
Instead of heading straight into the lava to fight the Lava Elemental in its preferred terrain, we recommend having a wizard like Gale pelt the enemy with Ray of Frost (or use ranged attacks if you don’t have that option) from afar. Having a weapon like the Mourning Frost staff that you can also obtain in the Underdark helps quite a lot for the additional cold damage. If you stand on a stone surface, you can goad the Lava Elemental to your location.
Once that happens, the elemental’s Magmatic Regeneration ability, which has it recover 10d6 hit points when it’s standing on lava or fire, is nullified. At that point, you can start dealing as much burst damage as you’ve got to get through its hit point pool. In addition to Ray of Frost, you can also protect a Warlock with Armor of Agathys or using Frostbite, Ice Knife, and a dragonborn’s breath weapon if it deals cold damage.
Alternatively, you can also knock the Lava Elemental off by pushing it off the cliff. However, that will prevent you from getting loot off the enemy, which includes a bunch of gemstones like 2 Bloodstone, 1 Agate, and 1 Onyx.
