In Lies of P, you’ll see phrases like “Your springs are moving,” “The Ergo is whispering,” “The Ergo is responding,” and “Your Ergo is rising,” appear on the screen after you perform certain actions. These are related to an invisible Humanity stat, which measures whether Pinocchio is behaving more like a puppet or a human. We’ll discuss how this mechanic works and some of the instances when you’ll see the above messages.
What do “Your springs are moving” and “The Ergo is whispering” mean in Lies of P?
The first of these two messages you’ll notice in Lies of P is “Your springs are moving.” You’ll likely see it when you lie the first or second time. Later on, you’ll see the message “The Ergo is whispering” presented in the same manner.
These messages simply mean that your Humanity stat is increasing. In fact, if you keep a sharp eye, you’ll see a meter indicating how high your Humanity is when the message appears. Unfortunately, as far as we can tell, there’s no way to check the current level of your Humanity stat.
You’ll most often see these messages when you just made the choice between lying and telling the truth. However, there are other actions you can take to raise your Humanity stat. Completing side quests where you help people, listening to records, or using the pray emote near a statue of a saint can all cause these messages to trigger.
In the long run, your Humanity affects which ending you’ll receive. However, other than that, we didn’t notice a huge effect on the world. It’s possible there’s some sort of subtle mechanic attached to Humanity that affects gameplay, but we haven’t found evidence of that being the case.
