The CS2 ranks and ranking system can be difficult to figure out if you’ve played CSGO. The multiplayer modes in the free Counter-Strike 2 have been split between Competitive, which borrows heavily from CSGO, and Premier, which does not. In Competitive, your rank is based on your success on each individual map, which encourages players to be experts on all maps so they none of them are overly underplayed. This is great for Premier since your team can select and ban certain maps from appearing, giving the edge to those who are well-rounded. Here is a breakdown of how the CS2 ranking system compares to CSGO.
CS2 Ranks vs. CSGO for Competitive
For Competitive multiplayer, the CS2 ranks will be the most familiar to those who have played CSGO. In fact, it’s pretty much one-to-one. As you earn more wins on a particular map, you’ll rise through the following rankings:
- Silver I
- Silver II
- Silver III
- Silver IV
- Silver Elite
- Silver Master
- Gold Nova I
- Gold Nova II
- Gold Nova III
- Gold Nova Master
- Master Guardian I
- Master Guardian II
- Master Guardian Elite
- Distinguished Master Guardian
- Legendary Eagle
- Legendary Eagle Master
- Supreme Master First Class
- The Global Elite
This ranking system for Competitive also ensures that everyone is on an even playing field when new maps drop in the future.
CS2 Ranks vs. CSGO in Premier
On the other hand, the CS2 ranks for Premier mode are a complete departure from CSGO. The new CS Rating, which is given once you finish 10 placement matches in Premier, will be shown on a global CS2 leaderboard. Similar to an ELO rating, this CS Rating is a clear number that indicates your overall performance, so you don’t have to wonder about how many wins you need to advance.
The highest CS Rating is around 40,000 but that is likely to rise as more matches are played. Every 5,000 points or so that you earn in CS Rating will put you in a different bracket indicated by the color of your name:
- Grey – 0 to 5,000
- Light Blue – 5,001 to 10,009
- Blue – 10,001 to 15,000
- Purple – 15,001 to 20,000
- Pink – 20,001 to 25,000
- Red – 25,001 to 30,000
- Gold – 30,001+
These numbers are approximations and may change over time. The color progression matches the general rarities for items, so that should be familiar at the very least.
