The Spider-Man 2 mid-credits scene seems innocuous and just a follow-up on one of the throwaway lines of dialogue from the beginning of the game. However, given the framing, it is very likely much more than that. Here’s what the mid-credits scene in Spider-Man 2 possibly means and what it might say about the franchise going forward.
What does the mid-credits scene mean in Spider-Man 2? Who is Cindy?
The mid-credits scene in Spider-Man 2 has Miles Morales meeting his mother’s new boyfriend named Albert. Albert then introduces his daughter Cindy, who players only get to the see the back of.
Given the names, this is undoubtedly Albert Moon and Cindy Moon, the latter of which is better known as Silk. Silk is a female Spider-Person of Korean descent who was first introduced in 2014, making her a relatively recent addition to the Marvel lore. She tends to not wear a full face mask, instead opting for one that only covers her nose and mouth. She can also shoot her organic webs out of her fingertips like a mix of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man from the Sam Raimi film trilogy and Spider-Woman from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
Cindy has seemingly yet to turn into Silk, but is likely something a future game will cover. In some instances, she becomes Silk through a bite from a spider that was irradiated through a particle accelerator, and there was a particle accelerator in Spider-Man 2 in the Emily-May Foundation building. However, given how Insomniac Games mixes some of the lore up, it’s possible that her origin story will differ in the unannounced but inevitable upcoming game.
What does the Spider-Man 2 post-credits scene mean?
The post-credits scene in Spider-Man 2 is much more straightforward. It has Norman Osborn visiting Otto Octavius in The Raft, a super-maximum security prison. Norman merely asks Otto what Spider-Man’s identity is in order to seek retribution. Otto seems unphased, only remarking that everyone should feel loss. After being asked what he’s writing, Otto only replies that he is finishing “the final chapter.”
While vague, it implies that this part of the storyline is coming to a close. However, Insomniac has not confirmed or denied how the future will play out. It has hinted that Green Goblin is going to make some debut (as noted by the mask in Norman’s apartment in the first game and the nebulous “G-Serum” in the second), so it seems like this third mainline game will include at least some of Otto and possibly the Green Goblin.
