Wii U Sales Reach All-Time High in December

Nintendo had a solid month in December, with Wii U sales reaching an all-time high for the company.

According to the Big N, hardware sales were a whopping 29 percent better in 2014 than the year prior, thanks in large part to such a successful final month. Software sales were even better, with a 75 percent year-on-year increase. The big sellers were Mario Kart 8 with over 1.7 million units sold, and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, which surpassed 1.3 million in sales.

"Wii U had its strongest year yet thanks to the highly anticipated software lineup and the introduction of the amiibo platform," Nintendo of America's Scott Moffitt said. "Fans can anticipate another strong year for 2015, especially with more highly anticipated games like Splatoon and The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D, as well as New Nintendo 3DS XL, arriving in the first half of 2015."

Unsurprisingly, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS was also a huge seller for the company, moving over 2 million copies. Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire performed incredibly well too, with a combined total of 2.6 million units sold.
