GOG Galaxy Enters Open Beta

GOG, formerly known as Good Old Games, sells 1000+ DRM-free games both old and new, but now it hopes to compete with Steam in another way. Today marks the open beta for GOG Galaxy, a new community platform.

According to the official post, GOG Galaxy includes features such as auto-patching, friends lists, achievements, and cross-play with Steam. One particularly noteworthy feature that GOG plans to introduce soon is the rollback option, "if you download a patch that breaks something or if you just change your mind."

The first big game to support the platform will be The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which comes out in just two short weeks. The game is developed by CD Projekt RED, the same company that owns the subsidiary responsible for GOG.

Steam currently dominates the PC marketplace, but competition is always a good thing. Folks who are interested in GOG Galaxy can download the beta here.
