If you've seen the debut screenshots of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5, then you're probably wondering why on earth gamers have been excited about the game since its existence was leaked last year. You aren't alone. Armed with iPad level graphics, it doesn't look good. Surprisingly, it'll be sold at full price.
While many were expecting Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 to have a budget price, it has found its way onto Amazon, and to everyone's surprise it's priced at $60 on current-generation consoles with a release date of Q4 2015. The PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are $40.
It has been confirmed that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 will have nine levels, two of which are remakes from prior games. That isn't what people are worried about, though. The debut screenshots show a visually poor game that has no business being released in 2015. To our surprise, it's Robomodo that's developing the game, the same team that made the overwhelmingly panned Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD. It's also been confirmed that the game will have "the ability to shoot projectiles on specific missions",, something fans of the franchise don't believe can be implemented in a way that doesn't feel forced and awkward.
As a skater and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater fan, I can say with confidence that this is exactly what the franchise didn't need. It's already made the jump from all-star to irrelevant, and now it's just digging a larger grave. This cash-in might not end up being the money maker that Activision is hoping for given how quickly word is getting around.
