How much is $5.1 million in bottle caps?
Fallout Shelter, the free-to-play Vault-builder that was announced and then immediately released by Bethesda during its E3 conference, has earned $5.1 million in just its first two weeks according to research firm SuperData.
That's Fat Man-level surprising given that the game is free-to-play. Just how many lunchboxes have people purchased? Even with the exploit that gave some players a ridiculous number of lunchboxes for free and with the best value of 40 lunchboxes at $9.99, that's at least 20 million lunchboxes purchased. But given that you can score extremely powerful Vault Boys and Girls through lunchboxes, as our reviewer Jeb said, maybe that's not too surprising?
An Android version of the game will be coming along soon, so we can expect even greater numbers once it's released. Whatever money they need to polish Fallout 4 is welcome, since it arrives this November (which I still think is quite optimistic, but it's Bethesda…) for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
