Former staff of Vigil Games, creators of the Darksiders series, have joined together to form a new studio called Airship Syndicate. Earlier today the team launched the Kickstarter for its first project, Battle Chasers: Nightwar.
According to the pitch, Battle Chasers: Nightwar features "classic JRPG combat [with] action packed dungeons and stylish storytelling." The dungeons will be randomly generated with plenty of enemies, puzzles, and traps.
As for the combat, it relies on each character's special abilities. The Kickstarter pages states "there are no basic attacks in Nightwar." Each attack in the game consumes mana, so players must think carefully during the turn-based encounters.
Nightwar is based on the Battle Chasers comic book series, created by Vigil Games co-founder Joe Madureira. Thus, it features a distinctive art style (and gorgeous animations if the gifs on the Kickstarter page are any indication). Also, key narrative moments will be presented in 2D animation courtesy of Powerhouse Animation Studios.
Plenty of more details can be found on the Kickstarter page. Battle Chasers: Nightwar is well on its way to reaching the $500,000 funding goal, which means the game will come out on PC and Mac, but Airship Syndicate plans to add PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions as stretch goals.
