Nintendo, through their Nintendo Direct on March 3rd, announced it would finally – FINALLY DAMMIT – bring SNES titles to the 3DS eShop. They would only work on the newer-model 3DS because the processor is better equipped to handle the emulation, but at least they would finally see a release. And currently, there are only three titles available: the three launch titles from the SNES in 1991, being Pilotwings, F-Zero, and Super Mario World. Here’s the list of set-to-release SNES games:
March 24:
- Super Mario Kart
- Earthbound
- Donkey Kong Country
April 14:
- Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past
- Super Metroid
- Donkey Kong Country II: Diddy’s Kong Quest
It’s a great start, especially seeing Earthbound get some love. But with a library of over 700 games released around the world, even leading into 1997/98 with some stray picross puzzle titles, there are plenty to bring to the masses online. Personally, I could use more time with Super Mario RPG and the plucky Uniracers, but I want to know what you’re hoping to find ported to the Big N’s Genesis killer. (After all, the SNES is what Genes-isn’t.)
What should Nintendo bring back from the annals of the SNES library? Let us know in comments!
