SNES NES Nintendo Switch Online Rumor

Nintendo Switch Online May Get More SNES and NES Games This Week [UPDATE]

Update:

The rumor was accurate. Dig Dug II and Mappy-Land have been added to the NES library, while Earthworm Jim 2 has been added to the SNES library. All three games are available for Nintendo Switch Online members now.

Original Story:

Nintendo may be adding more SNES and NES games to the Nintendo Switch Online library this week according to the latest rumor. Both of the retro console apps have been scheduled for maintenance and this only tends to happen when more games are added to the library.

When will the new NES and SNES games be added?

Both of the NES and SNES retro console apps are scheduled for maintenance between 00:55 UTC to 02:00 UTC on Thursday, March 31, according to NinStatusBot (via Video Games Chronicle). Players are expecting more games to be added to both libraries during the maintenance period with an official announcement coming from Nintendo very soon.

The last time the apps were taken down for maintenance was back in February when Earthbound was added for SNES and Earthbound Beginnings was added for NES following an announcement during Nintendo Direct. The service also underwent maintenance back in July 2021 when more titles were added. However, take the rumor with a ;pinch of salt because the apps have undergone maintenance before without new titles being added.

At the moment, the NES library includes 59 titles such as Metroid, Mario Bros., Ghosts’n Goblins, Kid Icarus, Ninja Gaiden, Donkey Kong, and The Legend of Zelda. The SNES library is slightly smaller at 51 titles, including Super Mario World, Breath Of Fire, Super Punch-Out!!, Super Metroid, Super Mario Kart, and Star Fox. Both libraries are available to Nintendo Switch Online and Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members.

In other news, Sony has confirmed the free PlayStation Plus games for April 2022 are Hood: Outlaws & Legends, Slay The Spire, and SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated. The confirmation follows on from a leak from the usual source stating these would be the games for this month. Elsewhere, the Xbox Live Games With Gold for April will start with Another Sight and Outpost Kaloki X on April 1, while Hue and MX vs ATV Alibe will follow on April 16.
