It's been about three weeks since Gears of War 3's release, and a small percentage of players have experienced freezes while playing split-screen. That may not be so bad if it didn't corrupt a profile, disabling the game from being played on that profile ever again.
This debilitating bug is still being investigated by Epic Games, as affected players remain twiddling their thumbs. User Crzyhomer from Epic Games is urging people to be patient on Epic Games' official forum:
The issue is being investigated by the dev team (myself included). You are not being ignored, but you have to understand that coming up with a reproducible situation that occurs in some small percentage of the population can be elusive and takes time. I assure you that you have not been ignored and we're doing our best to fix it. When it happens to you I know it can feel frustrating, but please have patience and try to be constructive. Remembering back to what you were doing right before the problem and providing our QA team with those details is the most positive thing you can do right now.
If you're one of the affected players, you can attempt to do the dubbed "Wolf fix" by Epic Games' forum user WyldeWolf:
I just made an account so I can provide a fix for this, I just tried it with my flatmate's account and it worked like a charm.
Warning: This will reset your collectibles and some counters towards achievements. This will NOT wipe progress bars to medals, ribbons or rank.
Kinda sucks to lose these, but it's better than not being able to play the game no?
1. Move your affected profile onto an external device e.g. USB thumb drive, along with your saves.
2. Clear your system cache
3. Load up Gears while signed into your affected profile, and as soon as you see the EPIC logo, unplug the USB drive (You will get a message asking you to plug it back in, IGNORE THIS!)
4. Hit start, and check your stats, you should have lost all your collectibles. This is a sign to show it has worked.
5. Plug your USB drive back in and try loading up a game of anything, it should no longer freeze!
