Valve Comments on Source Engine 2

With PCs pulling far ahead of console in raw power, you'd think that one of the forefront PC developers would be talking up their new tech to push manufacturers in the right direction (read: towards them). That's not the case with Valve.

The house that Gordon Freeman built last debuted brand new graphics engine technology with 2004's Half-Life 2. The Source Engine has powered some of the best and most beloved games of the past 7 years, with April's Portal 2 last at bat. According to Valve's Chet Faliszek, Source 2 will make its way out eventually, but Source itself is still kicking it:

We just update it, not just replace it. [At] some point we may say there's Source 2 or whatever, but really for us there's been a pretty easy way to keep it and understand the tools.

Valve's always been centered around the experience in their games and how players interact with their titles, so it's not surprising to hear that they'll continue working with Source so long as it gets the job done.
