Obsidian Looks Into Kickstarter For Its Next Game

Since Double Fine did extremely well for its Kickstarter fundraising for a future adventure game, everyone has been speculating on whether we will see something like this again and on a regular basis. Well, Obsidian Entertainment is considering stepping up to that challenge.

Creative Director Chris Avellone said on the Obsidian forums that Double Fine's campaign was "inspiring," and then went on to say that "player-supported funding is proof certain genres aren't dead and sequels may have more legs than they seem. The idea of not having to argue that with a publisher is appealing."

He then moved on to Twitter and Facebook as well as the forums and asked what fans would like to see Obsidian create if they indeed start a Kickstarter fundraiser. He tweeted, "I'm down," with creating either an old-school isometric role-playing game or a classic RPG.

Avellone's last statement on the matter was a tweet saying that he is currently going through all of the submissions and will get back to us about whether there will be a Kickstarter campaign.

Maybe they will create a better version of Alpha Protocol?

If this crowd-sourcing funding really catches on with developers, what would you request and from whom?
