Xbox 360 Version Of Max Payne 3 To Come On Two Discs

If there's one way in which the Xbox 360 is really beginning to show its age, it's with its DVD drive. As games continue to get larger and more ambitious, the benefits of a Blu-ray drive are becoming readily evident. Developer Rockstar isn't known to hold back in the scope of their games, so it should come has no surprise that Max Payne 3 will span two discs on the Xbox 360.

The news first broke when a Redbox listing of the game (via NeoGAF) listed the game as such. Interestingly enough, the listing incorrectly stated that the first disc will contain only single player, leaving the multiplayer portion on the second disc. Rockstar has since clarified, tweeting that while yes, the game is on two discs, the "Redbox info is not accurate. Redbox only ever rent out one disc, for any multi-disc game. Max is on 2 discs for 360, so Redbox will be renting disc 1 which contains half of the single player story and the full multiplayer game."

So if you were hoping to just drop a couple of bucks at your local Redbox kiosk and breeze through the campaign, you'd better have a PS3, otherwise you'll only get to experience half of the single player. Bummer, I know. I'm still baffled by how Bethesda managed to fit all of Skyrim on a single DVD. Some sort of developer magic I suppose.

Look for Max Payne 3 when it launches on May 15th.
