Portal 2 Level Editor Will Be Free For PC And Mac Next Month

Portal 2 was one of the greatest releases of last year, so there was a feeling of sorrow experienced after beating the campaign and finishing the dozens of co-operative levels. However, with a level editor coming next month, the game might return stronger than ever before.

The Perpetual Testing Initiative DLC announced by Valve last year is arriving on May 8th. It's only going to be available for the PC and Mac platforms, but will be offered through a free download with no strings (or portals) attached.

Unlike many third-party editors, the Portal 2 puzzle editor is intended to be simple to grasp so the non-programming types won't run away after first sight. However, the editor will incorporate most of the tools and effects seen in the campaign, so the sky is the limit—literally.

Valve have taken notes from games like LittleBigPlanet and are including a custom map viewer, voting system, and a couple of other online features to sprinkle a dash of community to the new Portal 2 experience. Start thinking about what kind of brilliant Picasso-style creation you'd like to share with the world so when the DLC comes out in a couple weeks you're ready to rock.
