Nintendo Has No Plans For Kid Icarus: Uprising Sequel

If you enjoyed the latest – and long overdue – installment in the Kid Icarus franchise, I've got some bad news for you my friend, as it looks like we won't be seeing another Pit-centric game for quite some time. Don't believe me? In denial? Well here's a little taste of the cold, bitter truth straight from the mouth of the developer himself, Mr. Masahiro Sakurai: "For now, my thought is that perhaps we'll see someone else besides me make another Kid Icarus in another 25 years.”

By that time, the Uprising followup will look like this in comparison:

Sakurai's statement comes from an interview with IGN, in which he responds to a question regarding the future of the universe that Project Sora created. “If by ‘lasting universe’ you mean to ask if there's a sequel, the answer is no. We pushed a lot into the game in order to let people have this short yet deep experience, but the novelty of that would likely grow thin in the next game."

It's pretty hard to argue with a developer who is unwilling to milk a franchise simply because there's money behind it. “No matter how much you change a game's genre and whatnot for the times, I think it's vital you never lose your respect for the original game,” he added. While many Nintendo fans will be heartbroken by the news, they should be glad that Sakurai is respecting the series.
