Platinum Games Didn’t Know Their Game Was Delayed

SEGA announced yesterday that they were pushing Anarchy Reigns, the latest over-the-top action set piece from Platinum Games to an already quite packed Q1 2013 release window. You know… where no one will pay any attention to it because of all the other games coming out at that time. Makes total sense when you don't think about it.

While the move was an unexpected surprise to western fans of Platinum, it was also a surprise to the developers themselves. Platinum Games Producer Atsushi Inaba said via Twitter:

First of all, we are done with all international versions of Anarchy Reigns. The delay is not due to further development on the game.

Today's Q1 2013 release news was the first we'd heard of it. Even if we wanted to, we can't comment as we're (still) in the dark officially.

Hey, c'mon SEGA. That's not cool. I haven't seen or played Anarchy Reigns since E3 2011, and even then it seemed like the publisher wasn't as thrilled as I was with the product. I typically blind-buy games from Platinum because I like their style, but now I'm bummed my preorder was pushed out for… what seems like no good reason.

I could see SEGA allowing more time for development, polish, added features, etc, but moving the game from a relatively open retail window (the dead of summer) to a quarter packed with AAA releases seems like a stupid move.
