Michel Ancel Teases Beyond Good & Evil 2, Says We’ll Hear More “Sometime This Year”

The extent to which Beyond Good & Evil fans have been strung along for over a decade is more than a little bit cruel, but in 2016 we did finally learn from creator Michel Ancel that Beyond Good & Evil 2 was being developed from scratch and is officially, actually underway. This current version of the game is not to be mistaken for the version that was stated in 2011 to be far into development, and that never materialized. Regarding that game, we can only assume it was re-purposed or scrapped.

Recently Ancel replied to a comment on his Instagram page, where he was asked if BG&E2 will appear at E3. While he was quick to dismiss wishes for an E3 appearance, he did provide relatively good news about the game's potential to make waves sometime in the near future.

Mhhh , not sure that E3 would be the best place to showcase Bg&e2 but we ´re working on the game so sometime this year , you should hear about it !

As fans of the original title already know, its sequel possesses nothing even remotely resembling a release date, though deductions from comments by both Ubisoft and Ancel himself over the years suggest that it will release "within a few years" of the last major status update in 2016. Ancel has also shed light on the game's themes and plot on several occasions, most instances of which have been compiled here.

If you've never experienced the original BG&E, there's an HD edition up for grabs that was released back in 2011 on both Xbox 360 and PS3, as a digital download in each case. Otherwise, here's hoping Ancel has learned his lesson about false hope by now, and that more info will indeed arrive within the confines of 2017.
