It seems the execs at Ubisoft were just as taken by Watch_Dogs as the gaming press and spectating public were at E3. So much so, Ubisoft is planning to make Watch_Dogs their next big brand, alongside Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell.
The game's producer, Dominic Guay, told OXM in a recent interview, "as soon as we started showing our results to upper management they were like 'this is our next big brand'," Guay added:
We've had it about every four years, with Splinter Cell, then Assassin's Creed, those big new brands, and Ubisoft want us to continue doing that.We love our brands now, and making these awesome sequels, but you need to bring something new to the table every once in a while, to surprise the player and push the envelope.
So we're grabbing this chance to be considered as a brand already before we ship our first game, and to get that amount of support behind us is awesome.
Ubisoft will look to build a franchise around Watch_Dogs much like they did with Assassin's Creed this generation, which in a sense, adds more credence to Watch_Dogs being a next-generation game. Why build a new IP and brand just to launch only one game in this generation of consoles, when a new console generation is right around the corner?
Either way, Ubisoft will use Watch_Dogs and their other outstanding brands to continue their recent sales growth.
