Destiny 2’s “Epic” Story Is Its Biggest Upgrade, Says Game Director

In comparisons to other sequels to AAA games, such as the original Assassin’s Creed and Uncharted, Destiny 2 is playing it rather safe. Arriving with the same three classes, a similar content composition, and identical gameplay, some have gone as far as to call it underwhelming. But there is one area where many are overlooking that could have a huge impact on the game experience.

Speaking to GamesRadar, director Luke Smith called the story of Destiny 2 the biggest “core” change for the franchise, adding:

It’s actually focusing on having a followable narrative, and having a big sort of storyline, epic scenario. Layering the story content in a way we haven’t done yet for Destiny.

The original Destiny was known for having a poorly developed story, a result of its tumultuous development that saw a complete wiping of its slate shortly before launch.

Although not a lot can be said of Destiny 2‘s story at this point, what we have seen in trailers is indicative of a lot of investment at Bungie, such as in the trailer above. What’s been showcased doesn’t just appear more attractive, but equipped with a much different vibe that better matches the game’s fun and enthusiastic gameplay style.

Destiny 2 will release on September 6th for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
