Artifact is Valve’s Upcoming Dota 2 Card Game, Coming in 2018

During this year’s International Dota 2 Championship playoffs, Valve announced an upcoming game slated for release in 2018. It’s called Artifact, and it’s a card game based on Dota 2.

Announced via Sean “Day9” Plott just before the final match of the day’s International events, There were sparse details revealed about the title, but it was revealed that it will include certain characters pulled from Dota 2 itself as well as three boards that’ll be used during gameplay.

There’s a quick teaser video to go along with the announcement, but it doesn’t really show much of what to expect from the game itself. It’s got some fancy imagery and a quick fade-out to the game’s title, but that’s really all you can glean from the footage. According to Day9, the game feels a little like Hearthstone, but with a three-lane Dota 2 system and other similar “tweaks” you might find with said game.

It’s all well and good to announce Artifact, subtitled The Dota Card Game, but we’ll have to wait a little longer before we get any real, concrete details about how it will tie into Dota 2 itself or how it will play. One thing’s for sure – it sure did come as a surprise. You can check out the newly-released teaser trailer below.
