Super Mario Odyssey is officially the fastest selling Mario game ever in the US, with Nintendo posting blockbuster sales for the gaming icon’s latest release.
Super Mario Odyssey sold 1.1 million units in the US alone, according to a press statement released by Nintendo, ensuring that it has now surpassed New Super Mario Bros. Wii as the fastest selling Super Mario game in the region. This excludes spin-off titles such as the Mario Kart series.
Discussing the game’s tremendous sales, Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime said: “The public continues to respond positively to Mario’s latest adventure. We’re also seeing sales momentum for Nintendo Switch thanks to an ever-growing catalog of games from large publishers and indie developers.”

Super Mario Odyssey has also proven to be a critical hit, with it currently the highest-rated game of the past three years on Metacritic, tied with Nintendo’s own The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. We gave it a perfect 5 out of 5 score in our review, branding it a “modern masterpiece.”
Nintendo has now sold through 2.6 million Switch units across the US, with the company ramping up their supply of the consoles as we head into the holiday season.
