Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 Hits One Million Copies but CI Games Still Laying off Staff

CI Games announced that Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 has managed to sell more than one million copies. Despite the success, the Polish developer/publisher has laid off some of its staff.

The one million units sales figure includes both physical and digital versions of Sniper Ghost Warrior 3. The developer also confirms 2017 as being a profitable year, announcing its financial forecast revenue for the financial year 2017 at 24 million Euro.

In the press release, CI Games CEO Marek Tyminski says that the company is well-positioned for further growth, with new financing from the bank worth over 8 million Euro. He refers to Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 as “the biggest title we’ve ever developed and published and despite a middling media reception upon release, we have continued to work hard to improve the game, and have managed to come out relatively successful with this title.”

CI Games has also downsized its internal studio and will be re-establishing its development efforts with a relatively small team of 30 people, in the process of developing its upcoming, unannounced tactical shooter game. Speaking on the lay-offs, Tyminski says that “the decision to downsize the studio was the toughest decision I have taken over the past years—it is never easy to let go of friends and colleagues with whom we’ve worked for years–however, I truly believe that it was the best way to move forward.” Taking heed of the difficulties it faced during the development and launch of Sniper Ghost Warrior 3, Tyminski adds that the company now believes “in smaller and leaner development teams when it comes to succeeding in this very competitive industry.”

Back in June 2017, CI Games announced its new strategy of plans to invest in and publish a wider variety of games. Now Tyminski has confirmed that the company is in talks with several established studios about the development of a sequel to Lords of the Fallen.

Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 is a tactical shooter game, which was released worldwide in April 2017 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It was notable for being the first game in the franchise to feature an open-world setting.
