Nintendo Will Continue To Support The Wii

Nintendo is not going to adopt the philosophy of "out with the old, in with the new" when it comes to the Wii. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime told Engadget in an a Q&A session at the Wii U event in New York that Big N will continue to support the Wii as well as push it into other regions.

To be more specific, since Nintendo has sold over 40 million units in the US, they want to continue to massage that opportunity with the Wii. And of course, that want to massage their success into other regions where it hasn't completely saturated the market, such as Canada, Latin America, and Eastern Europe.

So for at least awhile, we will see the Wii sit alongside the Wii U on store shelves. I'm sure that won't confuse people at all, especially since both use Wii Remotes. As long as they don't push the Wii as long as Sony has pushed the PS2, this could work out in their favor.
