O rejoice, my brothers and sisters! Far Cry 5 is nearly among us and, to get up hyped for the occasion, Amazon Prime has seen fit to drop a live-action short revolving around the game’s villains into our laps. Could this just be a risky one-off or a start of a brand-new multimedia trend? The Far Cry 5 live-action short will be available to all Amazon Prime members on March 5. Clocking in at 30 minutes, the short, titled Inside Eden’s Gate, will serve as a backstory for the game, with The Project at Eden’s Gate cult leader Joseph Seed (played by in-game voice actor Greg Bryk) overseeing the arrival of three video bloggers to Hope County. Maniac cultists vs. YouTubers? You had my curiosity, now you have my attention.
“At Ubisoft, we always strive to build worlds and narratives that actively engage our consumers both in and outside of our core gaming experiences,” says Tony Key senior VP of marketing and consumer experience at Ubisoft (via EW).
The short also comes packed with a brief trailer. In it, we get to see the first glimpses of Joseph Seed’s unique brand of madness: hunting people through woods, preaching, and baptising people. So far, so very cult-y.
The last time a video game made such a concerted effort to blend live-action and in-game events, Quantum Break happened. Yeah. For now, though, Ubisoft look to be forging forward with Far Cry 5‘s introduction to a wider audience as early as possible. Part prequel, part taster for what to expect up in Hope County, you can expect that many will follow suit should this live-action short see success.
