Rumor: Grand Theft Auto 6 Set in Miami and South America

Grand Theft Auto 6 will reportedly be set in Miami and South America, with a new rumor suggesting that players will be able to fly between the USA and South American countries such as Columbia in the open-world sequel. This would also likely see the return of Vice City, the location for the classic 2002 GTA game that fans have been hoping Rockstar will revisit in the future.

This rumor comes from The Know, a YouTube channel with 1.2 million subscribers that was previously behind a major Dark Souls 3 leak. In the video, The Know’s Ashley Jenkins and Gustavo Sorola explained the information reportedly given to them by their sources.

“The next Grand Theft Auto is codenamed ‘Project Americas’ and it will be based in Miami or possibly a facsimile of Miami given how Rockstar does these things,” Gustavo said.

“It most likely indicates a return to Vice City, because Vice City has been the stand-in for Miami in the past, but Miami does actually exist in the game’s universe as well,” Jenkins added.

“The reason [GTA 6] is codenamed Project Americas is because you’ll be able to fly between the USA and South America when you’re doing missions,” Gustavo concluded.

It’s impossible to validate The Know’s claims at this point, with Rockstar notoriously hush-hush about its upcoming games and all of its focus currently on the upcoming release of Red Dead Redemption 2. However, a return to Vice City would certainly be something that fans would want to see, and allowing players to fly between the US and South America certainly matches the level of ambition that Rockstar typically bring to its open-world games.

As The Know notes, this information is subject to change, so Vice City fans shouldn’t get their hopes up just yet. Watch the video below:
