New Nintendo Switch UI Update Found in Weird Bug

A new Nintendo Switch UI update has seemingly been discovered in a weird bug, with some users able to access an overhauled user select screen that points towards a larger update for the console. However, this hidden update is only accessible when playing Scribblenauts Showdown, with the discovery suggesting that Nintendo may announce a new Switch system update in tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct.

The hidden update was found by the YouTube channel SwitchForce, who posted a video highlighting a brand new “select a user” screen in which players are able to select an account before they start up a game. Though this is available on the Switch’s current UI, the updated version of this screen also allows the user to quickly see the amount of saved data each account has for the selected game.

The screen can be seen below:

We’re not certain why this screen has been introduced, though SwitchForce has a reasonable theory. According to the YouTubers, it seems most likely that Nintendo would use this in order to swiftly indicate progress in games such as Super Mario Odyssey or The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, allowing players to see how many Power Moons the other accounts have collected, or their progress towards defeating Ganon.

This would be a nice way of seeing how you’re progressing in a game in relation to your friends or family, and though it’s only a minor change, it would be a fun update to a UI that has basically stayed the same since the Switch’s launch. There’s no word yet on why this specifically works with Scribblenauts Showdown, or if Nintendo is planning to roll it out as part of a more significant update, though we may hear more during tomorrow’s Nintendo Direct.
