Gamelike Portal Turret Delivered To Valve Headquarters

Some games are so cool that they're destined to make the transition from digital media into the real world. Portal is a shining example, and it was only a matter of time before someone built one of those quoteful turrets.

Weta Workshop, a special effects and prop company from New Zealand, manufactured and delivered the world's very first Portal turret to Valve. The package arrived in a curious-looking box and the team quickly unpackaged the mobile defense platform while Gabe Newell looked on with pride.

If you're a fan of Portal or cool gadgets in general you'll probably admire how eerily-gamelike—as opposed to lifelike—the turret is. It's armed with audio, motion decection, flashing lights, and everything else you'd want from a turret that can only be stopped by a portal gun. Well, except for the game over causing bullets, of course.

Now all we need is a fully functioning portal gun and maybe a companion cube to go along with it.
