Assassin’s Creed 3 System Requirements Are Promising, But XP Isn’t Supported

Those looking to play Assassin's Creed 3 on PC now have some hardware specs to prepare their rigs with, and that might even mean upgrading their operating system.

The hardware requirements for Assassin's Creed 3 are a step up from what we have seen from any other releases in the series, even the gorgeous Assassin's Creed: Revelations. RAM requirements have increased from 1.5GB to 2GB, and video memory has gone up by a substantial 256MB. It's only natural to assume that we're in for one spectacular journey through colonial America.

Supported OS: Windows Vista (SP2) / Windows 7 (SP1) / Windows 8
Processor: 2.66 GHz Intel Core2 Duo E6700 or 3.00 GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ or better
RAM: 2 GB (4 GB recommended)
Video Card: 512 MB DirectX 9.0c-compliant with Shader Model 4.0 or higher (see supported list)*
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c-compliant (5.1 surround sound recommended)
Hard Drive Space: 17 GB
Besides the moderate requirements, you might also notice that Windows XP isn't supported. This isn't exactly a new thing, and lots of other games are starting to require Vista or later. However, don't assume that means DirectX 11 is supported, because it's not. That's definitely disappointing, but it isn't like we haven't seen a beautiful game in DirectX 9.0c before.
