GRIP Futuristic Combat Racing Game Launching This Fall

GRIP, the futuristic combat racing game from Caged Element, finally has a release date, according to an announcement by the game’s publisher, Wired Productions. The game will arrive on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC sometime this Fall. The game has been on Steam Early Access since early 2016.

GRIP is inspired by the old Rollcage video game from 1999 and is being developed by some of the members of the latter’s development team including Robert Baker who was the former lead programmer at Attention to Detail, the original developer of Rollcage.

Here’s what Robert Baker, now the principal programmer for GRIP, had to say about the new game:

“It’s a dream come true to once again find myself working on another great racing project. There are so many elements to GRIP that take me back, and I love the true racing experience that Rollcage and now GRIP both deliver. GRIP is truly poised to be the spiritual successor to the Rollcage games of the late 90s that so many people loved playing.”

GRIP will feature a total of 19 tracks at launch and players will have access to 11 different weapons and power-ups to help give them an advantage in the race. Some of these weapons and power-ups include explosive darts, mines, missiles, shields, and turbos. The game will also feature destructible environments that players can use either to their advantage or their opponents’ detriment.

Players will be able to choose from the game’s roster of 15 different vehicles, which they can customize with custom paint jobs, decals, wheels, and more. More information on the game’s cars, tracks, weapons, and other modes will be released later this year as the game comes closer to launch.

GRIP is currently available on Steam Early Access with a full release scheduled for Fall 2018 on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. You can check out the announcement trailer below:
