The Resident Evil 2 Remake just got a release date in the same trailer as the full game reveal at Sony’s E3 2018 conference and I am shook! This has been one of my most anticipated games since we first heard that the project was in development and from the look of the trailer the original material has been faithfully reproduced and expanded.
Any fears fans had can be put to rest with what we saw in this three minutes of footage. All your favorite characters return. The Chief, the Mayor’s Daughter, Marvin, Claire, Leon, Shelly, Mr. X, and more are all here. We even get a chance to see some expanded dialog from Marvin, meaning that Leon may get to spend more time with his fellow RPD officers during the game.
After the Sony presentation, another Resident Evil 2 Remake trailer dropped that shows gameplay and some of the expanded and new locations in the game. Instead of meeting the first zombie in a diner rescuing Claire it looks like Leon will be introduced to the undead when a deputy sheriff falls prey to one. Since that point was the catalyst for Leon and Claire meeting, who knows how the beginning of their scenarios may unravel now.
We do know, though, that the RPD will once again take center stage as a primary area in the game. We haven’t seen the sewers, the factory, or the labs yet, but it does look like we may see an expanded look at the streets of Raccoon City. Leon meets the deputy mentioned above in what seems to be a convenience store, so instead of just running around the alleys and debris on the way to the RPD we might get to explore some buildings.
I absolutely cannot wait to play this game. It was one of the first games that scared the bejeezus out of me as a kid, and I’ve loved the series ever since. It’ll be great to see a modern version of it and how it compares to the original.
The Resident Evil 2 Remake will release on January 25, 2019, on PlayStation 4.
