Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Director Wants Players to Make the World Their Own

The latest Assassin’s Creed has been confirmed as an RPG so many times, three times during the presentation at E3, that we’d be outraged if we heard someone call it anything else. It showed off a lot of new things that really hit home that Assassin’s Creed, a title who’s previous games were certainly not RPG-focused, would become the RPG game that fans of the genre would fall in love with. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey director, Scott Phillips, seems heartily convinced of that too.

Speaking to GamesBeat, Phillips discussed the open-world RPG at length. He stated that with this upcoming Assassin’s Creed he believed it had “the finest tune and the best, the most fun version of what Assassin’s Creed can be on the gamepad.” He also mentioned what he was looking forward to, such as “what we allow you [the player] to do with choices, with options, with role play, with romance—I’m super excited for players to get their hands on that. I think it brings Assassin’s Creed to a whole new level of interactivity, of choice, of dynamism, of making history your playground.”

He added that “history being your playground” was the motto for Assassin’s Creed, and considering the changes that have been made to the title, we can’t help but agree. Previous titles have included romance and the choice of character before, but nothing like different paths and choices that affect the world around the player. That is entirely new to Assassin’s Creed, but we’re more than excited to see how it will work and how players will shape the story differently from one another, just like any other RPG game out there.
