Story Details, Concept Art Leaked For Bungie’s Destiny

I don't know about you, but ever since Bungie announced that they'd be working for Activision on an ambitious new project, I've been waiting on pins and needles in anticipation to find out what they've come up with. Rumors and leaked information in months past led us to believe that the new game would be called Destiny and be set in some sort of sci-fi universe, which has now been confirmed to be true.

Thanks to an IGN reader who leaked a document (prepared by an ad agency) to the outlet, we now have some solid information on the game, including story details and concept art. Bungie has since confirmed the legitimacy of the infomation to IGN, so you can rest assured that the information below is not just a bunch of baloney.

The leaked document revealed the following about the plot:
Our story begins seven hundred years from now in the Last City on Earth, in a Solar System littered with the ruins of man’s Golden Age. A massive, mysterious alien ship hangs overhead like a second Moon. No one knows where it came from or what it’s here for, but only that it’s our protector. Meanwhile, strange, alien monsters creep in from the edge of the universe, determined to take Earth and the Last City. We are young ‘knights’ tasked with defending the remains of humanity, discovering the source of these monsters and – eventually – overcoming it.

The game itself is supposed to be "social at its core" and "fun and accessible to all." According to Bungie co-founder Jason Jones, “Destiny is designed for your inner seven-year old. We want to make it feel like a mythic adventure.”

Bungie clearly has some lofty aspirations with this new IP, with plans “to create a universe as deep, tangible, and relatable as that of the Star Wars franchise.” Do you think they'll succeed? What do you think of the plot details? Let us know in the comments below.

No release date was given, but it appears that the game will be headed to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for a 2013 release.
