Gamescom 2018: Life Is Strange 2 Max and Chloe Explained, Devs Say Franchise Is ‘More Than Just About Them’

Some gamers have voiced their disappointment since it was revealed that Life Is Strange main characters Max and Chloe won’t be returning in the next installment of the franchise, Life Is Strange 2. At Gamescom 2018, thanks to several of the game’s key developers discussing Life Is Strange 2 Max and Chloe, we now know why Dontnod Entertainment decided to go ahead with a brand new story featuring new characters, instead of continuing where we left off in the previous game.

In an interview with IGN, Life Is Strange 2 co-director Michel Koch said that the developer “wanted to do something different” and “something original.” Although this wouldn’t exactly fare well with fans of the first game and its prequel Life Is Strange: Before The Storm, he made it clear that “Life Is Strange is not just Max and Chloe, or Arcadia Bay.”

Life Is Strange 2 will feature a teenager named Sean, alongside his younger brother Daniel, who have fled from their home after the discovery of three bodies which may be related with the revelation that Daniel might be telekinetic. Co-director Raoul Barbet described the franchise as being “about everyday characters, relatable characters with stories you can involve yourself in because it reflects your own experiences. With some supernatural stuff on the top.”

Unfortunately for fans, any hope of seeing Max and Chloe in the future might also have been dashed. Koch explained that the developer has “nothing more to do” with the characters and that they “don’t want to,” simply because they have “nothing more to tell” with those characters (Max, Chloe, and Rachel).

In other related news, we received our first official look at both Sean and Daniel just yesterday. The first of five episodes for Life Is Strange 2 is coming to the PS4, Xbox One, and PC on September 27, 2018. Check out the official reveal trailer below.
