Gamescom 2018: Resident Evil 2 Remake Claire Gameplay and PC 4K Footage Unveiled

Resident Evil 2‘s remake is coming along nicely, and a new Claire gameplay video and the first Resident Evil 2 Remake PC footage has been unveiled by developer Capcom at Gamescom 2018. In the video, co-protagonist Claire Redfield is seen attempting to help a little girl – Sherry – escape from a closet that she has got herself trapped in, but is set upon by William Birkin’s G-form.

After being hit a couple of times by the giant pipe Birkin’s G-form is wielding, Claire attempts to take him out with a combination of her weapons. A game of cat and mouse ensues as the two characters attempt to kill the other in a claustrophobic environment. The player, unfortunately, is on the receiving end of a bit of a beating and dies.

The gameplay then jumps forward to a different section of the level. Claire has successfully led Sherry through a sewer and manhole into an abandoned car park, and the pair must escape under a metal barrier. Their plan is foiled, however, when Claire is held at gunpoint by a mysterious, pistol-wielding man.

In a separate video, in association with Nvidia, Resident Evil 2‘s other playable character Leon is seen investigating an abandoned building. He fails to save a fellow Raccoon City police officer from being ripped apart. before running into his own problems with a slew of zombies standing in his way. The gameplay makes good use of the PC’s processing power, with the game’s gory details on view in 4K resolution and at 60fps.

Announced back in 2015, Resident Evil 2‘s remake has been three years in the making, and no gameplay footage was shown off to the public or the press until E3 2018. These two videos give a better idea of how it’ll play out upon release, with the game due to make its way into stores on January 25, 2019. It’ll be available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
