[Update]: Nintendo has confirmed that Pikmin 3 will launch sometime during the second quarter of 2013.
The Wii U launches in Japan this weekend, and to gear up for its release, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata spilled the beans this morning on some exciting new info in a brand-new Nintendo Direct.
In it, he discussed Game & Wario, a title that has a total of 16 GamePad-centric mini-games that can be enjoyed by five gamers at a single time. Iwata highlighted a few mini-games, including one in which players were skiing down a mountain. Another tasked the player with pretending he/she was asleep every time the character's mother entered the room by putting down the GamePad. It sounds completely ridiculous, but I'd expect nothing less from a Wario mini-game collection.
Iwata also talked a bit about Pikmin 3, which unfortunately still has yet to receive a release date. There was however a bit of gameplay that showcased some dark cave traversal where players need to rely on glowing mushrooms to light the way.
Iwata also shared a bit more about Wii U's upcoming apps and its highly anticipated TVii features. As one might expect, the overview was a bit different than what we'll likely have available in North America and Europe.
Be sure to stay tuned to GameRevolution for additional updates when the Big N airs the next Nintendo Direct for English-speaking audiences later today.
