Shovel Knight is available on just about everything. The indie-darling retro-inspired action platformer has garnered a lot of fans in the years since its initial release. We loved it in our original review, but since then, the game has only got better. It has received a whole host of new content, not least a number of new campaigns to play. All for free, of course. More recently, Yacht Club Games has bundled together all of the Shovel Knight content into one package – Shovel Knight Treasure Trove. And now, it looks as a physical edition of the game might be on its way to PS4 and Nintendo Switch, or, at least, Gamestop has added, and since deleted a listing for it.
The original story was run by NintendoEverything. In it, they revealed that a listing for a physical edition of Shovel Knight Treasure Trove was posted for PS4 and Switch. Since this post, however, the listing has disappeared. Now, you may be thinking that placeholders get listed and de-listed all the time on websites such as Gamestop, Amazon and the like. Treasure Trove, however, was given the full works, including box arts. You can see these below:
For the unaware, Shovel Knight Treasure Trove is a complete collection of all Shovel Knight content to date. This includes the standard game, Shovel of Hope, Plague of Shadows, and Specter of Torment campaigns. Also included is King of Cards, which is another new mode. Yacht Club Games also outlined an all-new Super Smash Bros alike multiplayer mode named Showdown. All of these will be included in any such Treasure Trove physical release.
While we cannot currently pre-order the physical version of the game, it seems like an official announcement can’t be too far off. For now, though, we can all fawn over Shovel Knight’s appearance in Super Smash Bros Ultimate as an Assist Trophy.
