Old School RuneScape Mobile Release Date Announced, Features Cross-Platform Play

RuneScape mobile version will be finally released later this year. This smart device version of the classic MMO will be a port of Old School RuneScape, rather than the game’s mainline version. It will be arriving on Android and iOS on October 30, 2018 for free.

Rather than the very original version of the game, or its updated mainline version, this release will be a port of Old School RuneScape (OSRS). The distinction between OSRS and the other versions of the MMORPG is that it is an exact copy of the original game as it was in 2007. However, OSRS features various quality-of-life and stability fixes that the original game did not have. This means that fans of the vintage MMO can relive their memories of it, without worrying about the quality of the software itself.

The press release also adds that the RuneScape mobile version will hundreds of quests, two raids, and cross-platform play. This means that players can quest with PC adventurers on the go, or continue their time with the game after they have left the house. In addition to this, the game is available for pre-register and pre-order now on Google Play and the Apple App Store.

RuneScape originally was released by Jagex in January of 2001 for PC. It has been played by over 260 million people since its release and has received a Guinness World Record for the world’s most popular free MMORPG. It updated its graphics engine in 2014 giving it a look far different from its roots.

Because of this, the developers split the game in two giving birth to Runescape Classic (which ran on the previous engine) and Runescape which was the updated version. Because of the negative reception of this updated version of the game, and the difficulty maintaining ClassicOld School Runescape was released in 2013.
