A new expansion is coming to the indie hit Wizard of Legend. Developer Contingent99 revealed the Sky Palace expansion in a teaser today. The new content update will be coming to all platforms sometime this winter.
Sky Palace adds new areas to explore, special attacks, enemies, and more to the magical 2D dungeon crawler. The teaser showed off the titular sky palace, which looks to be the home of powerful enemies. That action-packed trailer can be found below.
Wizard of Legend is a rogue-lite dungeon crawler that casts players as a wizard seeking to become the next Wizard of Legend by killing lots of enemies. The game’s fast pace is built around the player’s dash, which is used to avoid enemy attacks and cast dash spells. The combat is focused on chaining those spells together in quick succession, and has a massive amount of spells. Wizard of Legend also supports local two-player cooperative play. Co-op is a focus for the team, with nearly all of the promotional material showcasing two wizards blasting spells around.
Wizard of Legend was released on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch in May and had sold over 300,000 copies by the end of that month. By late July, that number had climbed to over half a million sales—just on the Nintendo Switch and PC. The game garnered high praise from fans and critics, with a “Very Positive” rating on Steam as of this writing. The Kickstarter-funded game received about $75,000 in the middle of 2016.
Contingent99 is a two-person development team, and Wizard of Legend is their first game together as well as their first game full stop. Bundy Kim and Dahoon Lee began developing the game in 2014, and brought in Dale North to produce the game’s soundtrack. Contingent99 worked alongside publisher Humble to bring the title to consoles. Sky Palace does not have an exact release date, but expect it sometime winter 2018.
