The Guacamelee Switch version has received a surprise release today. It is available to download off of the Nintendo eShop right now. In addition to this, Drinkbox Studios has also announced a port of the sequel for the portable hybrid-console. Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition is available for $14.99 on Nintendo’s console.
Drinkbox Studios, in conjunction with PopAgenda, has released Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition on the Nintendo Switch. This comes as a surprise as no release date has been announced for the game prior to this launch. This version of the game will include all previous DLC for the Mexican-themed Metroidvania, as well as some additional levels and bosses not found in the original release. This is not the first time the Guacamelee! franchise has been on a Nintendo console. The Wii U also had this edition of the game in July 2014. You can watch the trailer for it below.
In addition to this surprise release, Drinkbox Studios also announced that Guacamelee! 2 is also coming to the Nintendo Switch. Originally launched in August of this year, the game will be coming to the portable console this December. As of writing, there is no news on an exact release date outside of the December window or whether it will have any added bonuses.
The original Guacamelee! was released in April 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. It arrived on PC, Linux, and Mac later the next year. It’s upgraded version was then launched on PS4, Xbox One, Windows, Xbox 360, and Wii U in July 2014. We gave this edition of the game a 4.5 out 5 in our review. The game as a whole was very favorable, with its length being the only downside.
Guacamelee! 2 launched on the PS4 and Windows platforms in August 2018. We gave the game a 3.5 out of 5 in our review.
