Stardew Valley iOS Version Coming This October

Stardew Valley iOS was announced by publisher Chucklefish earlier today. The iOS port comes as a surprise to fans of the game. The Secret Police are developing the port alongside original creator Eric Barone, and it will be supported on both iPhone and iPad. The game is releasing on October 24 for $7.99 on the iOS App Store.

Barone said in a blog post that it will be the full game and the biggest difference will be the rebuilt UI and controls for touch screens. There are no in-app purchases (IAP) and the game will mirror version 1.3 of the PC game. The only things cut from Stardew Valley iOS are multiplayer and mod support. PC players can even transfer save data to the iOS version of the game.

Barone and The Secret Police are working on an Android version of the game, with a release date sometime in the future. The London-based development studio have been working on the ports for about a year. Stardew Valley iOS is the latest in a long list of ports for the popular farming role-playing game.

Barone originally released Stardew Valley on PC in February 2016, after starting development in 2012. Barone worked alone on the game for years, and its release was a massive success. The game was published by Chucklefish, and then began being ported to other platforms. It came to OS X and Linux in July 2016, followed by PS4 and Xbox One in December of that year. A Nintendo Switch version was released in October 2017 and a PS Vita version in May 2018. Barone added four-player cooperative multiplayer to Stardew Valley in 2018, following promises he made during development. The game had sold over 3.5 million copies by the end of 2017.

Stardew Valley tasks players with running a farm on the outskirts of Pelican Town. Players cultivate crops, develop the farm, can romance a variety of Pelican Town’s residents, fish, help others, and dive into a mine to the north of town. Stardew Valley drew heavily from the Harvest Moon games but managed to have its own distinct style.
