Cellar Door Games has announced the Rogue Legacy Switch release date. The platforming roguelike was hinted to be coming to the platform earlier this year by the developers. It has been released on PC, Linux, OS X, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, and the PS Vita previously. This will be the first time any of the developer’s games has launched on a Nintendo console.
The Rogue Legacy switch release date has been revealed to be November 6, 2018. This date comes from the game being listed on the UK Nintendo eShop. It is available to pre-order there right now. It will be sold at £10.99 which converts to $12.98. However, this may not be how much it will actually cost since the Steam version is currently at $14.99. It isn’t yet confirmed if the game will be coming stateside on the portable console.
Rogue Legacy combines the genres of Metroidvania games and platformers and adds some roguelike mechanics. When the player dies, certain aspects of their current character will be passed onto offspring who will continue the quest of the player. However, these genetic traits are chosen at random and are not necessarily all beneficial. All progress in the procedurally-generated castle is lost at death, but gold found during a run can be used to buy armor, abilities, and other items in the next.
The game was originally released in 2013 for the PC. It recently received a content update earlier this year. It added new attributes, let players rebind mouse control, among many other changes. The update also added changes to the New Game Plus mode such as level scaled stat drops. What’s more, the content patch also implemented support for various non-English languages such as French, German, and Spanish. Rogue Legacy received critical acclaim upon its initial release. Its PC version currently has a Metacritic score of 85 out of 100.
